Blog post #11 (final post): write a short reflection on your experience of keeping a blog this term. (Examples of questions to help you get started: What did you enjoy and learn from this assignment; and what did you not enjoy about this experience? Is keeping a blog something you plan to continue? Is a blog assignment something you would consider using in your own classroom?
To be honest, I felt that the blog was a little redundant. I have kept a blog in the past and have an active blog with numerous pages and features for my classroom instruction. I have even blogged with other schools reading the same book in other states! This blog, however, seemed to serve the same purpose as the discussion thread, and as such did not necessarily facilitate a greater learning environment than the other would have.
I do love the concept of on-going conversations among learners within a community. I particularly like the personalization that a blog provides that is not innate to the forum discussion or a classroom assignment. Technology itself is a hook for many students, and so such tools should be considered as an important aspect of instruction.
In this ever-changing world, however, blogs are nothing new. I have tried them, and still use them, but am now looking for the next great innovation. Instead of blogging, I'm doing so much more now with Skype and Face-time and even vod-casts. It's hard to keep up with all the new technology and it's increasingly difficult to maintain the attention and excitement of students. Consequently, I'm sorry to say that I don't think I will invest as much in a blog as I have in the past.
